Automotive Archaeology GTO back yard find
Automotive Archaeology GTO back yard find
So this TV show pilot Automotive Archaeology GTO back yard find was actually just “Automotive Archaeology” and they first car used was a GTO that was sitting for years.
While it is a TV show that I never saw premiered on my side of the country it seemed to have been shown 2009 in LA where it rated highly 😕 Guess not high enough to get any air time on the East Coast however.
Aside from all the TV ratings hubbub it looks like it could have been an interesting show to watch none the less. They claimed to not only cater to the car enthusiast but, to the environmentalist buy cleaning up eye sores and things that were polluting the earth at the same time.
The first car they found for the series wound up being a Pontiac GTO none the less. It was said to be sitting for 10 pr 20 years in a yard by some people and when you first see it you don’t doubt it 🙁 It looks rough especially the signature GTO hood. I kind of doubt that the hood will be savable by the looks of it 😕 The pass fender seems quite shot too but, should be an easy replacement along with the quarters being not the worst I have seen on a car that sat for so long.
The rear valance looks to be beyond shot but, not sure if it was any good before the roll back dragged it up onto the bed? Then the trunk is full of some of the original parts including the Hub Caps and one of the exhaust tips that rotted off. As they dragged it off it didn’t seem to leave any floor pans or underbody parts on the ground so oddly enough it could have solid floors 😕
Having solid floors after it came out to be sitting for 30 years over a dirt parking spot is a very rare thing 🙁 They didn’t mention anything on the engine that I noticed and you have to wonder why the car was parked so many years ago? Bad trans or bad engine possibly, he found new brake pads that had never been installed so it could be someone parked it and just never got back to it possibly 😯
Never got to see what became of this Pontiac or the TV series so…
