1968 Kaiser M715 6BT swap
CL Cummins Swap M715 Kaiser
Well this 1968 Kaiser M715 6BT swap is something I wanted to do with the M725 Kaiser Ambulance that I owned a decade ago. However mine was LT1 SBC powered and it really wasn’t to fast even with that kind of power and RPM.
So this Kaiser M715 6BT swap most likely could pull trees out of the ground or drag a building off it’s foundations. However getting up to speed on the public roads is going to be something it won’t be capable of 🙁
From reading the CL post it seems to be a nicely done swap. I would definitely want it if I had the money or room at this point in time.
Problem is however, is that it still has the factory axles. Now he has upgraded it to Power Brakes and Power Steering (Both much needed options) however upon doing all these things he left the 5:87 gears in the Dana60 front and Dana70 axles!
Now as I said I had a M725 with a LT1 SBC swap done to it and a Turbo400 transmission to the stock transfer case. A straight cut gear case that make a tone of noise at highway speeds mind you 😯 Anyway that small block was singing at 55/60mph not to mention if I was going down the Parkway to Forked River! Then I was winding that engine to the point that it was cavitating the water pump and letting the engine overheat. It was in need of some form of overdrive.
So now that this had a nicely done 6BT Cummins swap you have to stop a second and think of how low and RPM this engine redlines at? I am wondering if this thing would be able to hit 45/50mph and thats it if that with that deep a gear?
