Super Rare Marlin Twin Stick I Found

We were looking for a Marlin emblem and gas tank for a real nice Marlin we have in the collection when I found this :O

Yes this Super Rare Marlin Twin Stick I Found had the parts I needed but, wait it’s a Twin Stick! How many of these have you seen in your life much less be alive to rebuild now 😕

Twin Stick

This rare Twin Stick was an interesting choice instead of the automatic transmission. It used 2 levers mounted in the center console. You would start out in 1st gear then shift to second. Then you would hit the other stick to go to overdrive. Then you would shift to 3rd gear and again you could shift into over drive making this a 5 speed transmission! Talk about a car before it’s time 🙂

There was also a button on top of the shifter just in case you were not talented enough to be able to shift 2 levers. That was you could just press the button for OD. This was available with a 3:54 rear gear ratio and it came with any engine you ordered with this transmission setup.

The V8 engines available at the time were 287 and 327 cubic inches but, you could also get a 232 straight six with this if that is what floated your boat 😕

The last year was 1965 that you could order this Trans package as it was replaced by the 4 speed in ’66 🙁 The Marlin was available until 1967 but at that time it was on the full sized Ambassador platform. It appeared a little less awkward in that form however less people bought that model and it fell out of favor. AMC did introduce the Javelin later to prove that the design could be of interest and that they could stand up against the Big 3 when it came to car sales however 🙂
